It’s that time of year again guys, the days are getting longer, flowers are blooming and finals week is looming… which means, graduation day is just around the corner! This is such a big occasion which can totally add to the anxiety surrounding those final few exams. I’ve put together a list of tips, tricks and a style guide to help make your experience as smooth as possible. I can’t actually believe it, but I realized I’ve participated in 3 commencement ceremonies now, and this year will be my 4th time in a cap and gown. Here I’ve put together a style guide with my favourite looks, perfect for the ceremony and even the party afterwards.
Ceremony: Your cap and gown are the essentials here, so you want to pick a dress that’s rather neutral and without too many details so it will lie smooth underneath your official garb. The shoes you choose should match your dress and your gown, but be careful to choose a pair that is comfortable because graduation ceremonies are long, and you’re most likely going to do a lot of walking.
Grad Party: The party we've been waiting for! The dress code for this event will obviously depend on your school and your personal vibe, but most grad parties tend to be on the formal side, and will require semi-formal to formal dress. Focus on your dress and the perfect shoes/ accessories will follow. Ready to party, Class of 2017? Check out my picks below.
1. & Other Stories, 59€
I love that this one is so classic and can be dressed up or down, so you’ll actually be able to wear it more than once!
2. & Other Stories, 79€
This dress is sleek and elegant, the lace details add something sexy while still remaining appropriate for the ceremony (and I love that it’s only 79€).
3. & Other Stories, 99€
This ultra-feminine dress is perfect for a summer night out, especially your graduation party! It’s breezy and simple, but the pleats add texture and give it that little something extra.
1. REVOLVE, 260€
This maxi dress is super flattering and perfect for a graduation party or night out. I love the deep navy colour and cutout details.
2. BB Dakota, 190€
Again, I totally fell in the love with the colour of this dress. Flattering on any skin tone, this barley-there blush tone will make you feel like a princess.
3. REVOLVE x House of Harlow, 115€
This metallic dress is so cute. I love the minimalist cut paired with metallics and an elegant length.. perfect for a party!
I’ve spent hours combing through my favourite blogs and instagrams to find the perfect shoes for any graduation, so you don’t have to! The biggest question here: heels or flats? Up to you, I’ve included my faves of both styles, and made sure the heel options were comfortable enough to wear all day!
1. &Other Stories, 89€
These are totally Acquazurra dupes, but they're adorable, versatile, and a fraction of the price.
2. &Other Stories, 89€
These sandals are bold with a chunkier heel, but pair perfectly with a slip dress or even a jumpsuit.
3. Schutz, 185€
These sandals are classic with a twist, the scalloped edges make the ultimate, understated party shoe.
1. Valentino, 975€
Ok, so this pair is a bit of a splurge, but these flats are my all-time favourites and are super comfortable as well. The studs keep the classic ballerina style fresh and up-to-date.
2. Steve Madden, 78€
Versatile, simple and delicate, these flats are perfect for graduation, and even the party afterwards.
3. Halogen, 77€
These flats will be the centre of attention with a beautiful ribbon lace-up detail and classic black color. Pair them with your favourite dress for the perfect grad party look.
Hope you guys enjoyed and congrats to all the amazing class of 2017!
